 Dear Families,

Each year the students in my classroom complete a Service Learning Project to go along with our Character Education lessons throughout the year. The buckaroos and I have decided on a food bank project.
Students who are able to participate in our project will prepare a meal for the food bank distribution night on May 5, 2010 from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church.
Our class has met and determined that the meal will be a Cinco de Mayo theme consisting of: Enchilada casserole, Spanish rice, tortilla chips, and various desserts. Each student is a member of a team who will help organize and prepare for this special day.
In addition, students have agreed to donate an item(s) to make this possible. Below, your child has listed what they would like for their family to consider donating. Please do not feel obligated, however I would like for you to send a note if it is not possible so that I can ensure we have our ingredients.

I would like for my family to donate: _____________________________________________________

Please send your donated item no later than May 4th. If it requires refrigeration, please ask that your buckaroo deliver it directly to our classroom upon arriving at school.
Students participating in the set up, preparation, and serving of the meal should have a bus note indicating that they should ride the Kid's Cafe' bus on May 5th. Parents should pick their child up by 6:15 p.m. Please sign the note below if you agree to this project for your child and return it no later than May 3, 2010.
I appreciate your generous donations and your support in making this a meaningful learning experience about the impact of Service Learning.

My amazing buckaroo, ________________________________, has my permission to participate in the Cinco de Mayo Service Learning project on May 5, 2010 from 3:45-6:15 p.m. I will send a note for my child to ride the bus, be taken by me to the church, and to pick my child up at 6:15.

Dear Families,

Students in my homeroom have entered an attendance contest. Our goal is to improve our attendance by having perfect attendance since we are typically missing 1-3 students daily. Our goal from now until the end of the school year is to be here 100% of the time. Students who meet this goal, will participate in a pizza party to recognize their efforts. Thank you in advance for ensuring that your child is at school each day during this important last quarter. I can't wait to celebrate with them!
The 3/4 Ol' West team is in the process of planning for a STAY AT THE RANCH Field Trip Day. As we finalize our plans and stations, we will be asking for parents to consider helping us make our day a success. Stay tuned for information in the next week.
As a heads up, I will not be at school on Monday, May 17, 2010.
as I will be participating in the 5th grade field trip as a mother.

Happy Spring!
